Your teeth are some of the strongest elements in your body. They are capable of chewing some hard food items, and with proper care, they can last a lifetime without the need for any changes. However, lack of care, believing in myths, and confusion can lead you to harm your teeth. There are a few things you should never do to your teeth, and you should educate yourself about them. 

From food items to lifestyle habits, there are various things that can be extremely harmful to your teeth. The harm does not reflect immediately, so people continue practicing unhealthy measures. Things to never do to your teeth 

  • Do not destroy your enamel with hard foods. 

Many people love sucking and biting on ice. Other hard foods people are fond of include popcorn, corn on the cob, hard candies, etc. Having these once in a while is okay, but eating them regularly is extremely damaging to your enamel. Dentists hate hard food items because they increase the chances of chipping, cracking, breakage of teeth, etc. 

  • Do not use your teeth as tools. 

Although your teeth are some of the strongest parts of your body, you should not use them as tools. Your teeth were made for chewing and speaking, not to be used as a bottle opener or nutcracker. It is recommended not to put anything in your mouth that can possibly hurt your teeth, gums, or tongue.

  • Do not brush with a hard toothbrush. 

Do not use a hard toothbrush. Always look for soft-bristled toothbrushes when you go shopping, and make sure to replace them every three months. You can also replace your toothbrush when you start noticing signs of damage, such as bristles becoming hard, wearing down, etc. Hard bristles can be harsh over your teeth’ enamel and cause damage. 

  • Do not swallow toothpaste after brushing. 

Although this may sound like common knowledge and stupid advice, you should always spit your toothpaste out after brushing. Many children swallow the toothpaste during unsupervised brushing, so make sure to check on your kid today. Swallowing toothpaste leads to stained and porous teeth. 

  • Do not ignore pain. 

One of the ways your body tells you that it needs help is through pain. If you experience pain in your teeth or gums, you should visit a dentist immediately instead of ignoring it. Leaving dental pain unattended can progress the problem, and you may need extensive treatments later.
